Job Purpose: The Librarian and Records Management Officer will establish a medical library and implement efficient record-keeping systems, ensuring staff and authorized users have the information they need for optimal patient care and hospital operations.

For Appointment to this position, the applicant must have:

Qualifications and Professional Requirements:

i. Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized /accredited university or relevant field;
ii. 5 years’ experience as Librarian or its equivalent;
iii. Must be a member of a relevant professional body where applicable;
iv. Experience of working in a fast-paced and busy environment with competing demands on time and resources;
v. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
vi. Demonstrated professional Competencies and administrative capability.

Competencies and Skills

i. Ability to conduct effective searches in medical databases and other information resources;
ii. Knowledge of library classification systems and cataloging principles for organizing and managing library resources;
iii. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Duties and Responsibilities

i. Develop and implement a standardized system for classifying and organizing hospital records (physical and digital) based on best practices;
ii. Ensure efficient retrieval and access to hospital administrative documents, and other hospital non-medical records;
iii. Oversee the secure storage and archiving of inactive records;
iv. Manage subscriptions to online medical databases and journals;
v. Contribute to the development of hospital policies and procedures related to information access and record-keeping.
vi. Collaborate with ICT department on the integration of library resources with hospital IT systems.
vii. Indexing and abstracting information resources; and Conducting searches and information retrieval.
