Job Purpose: Consultant pediatricians are expert child doctors, leading care for young patients. They diagnose complex issues, perform advanced procedures, and guide treatment plans, ensuring optimal health for children and families.
For Appointment to this position, the applicant must have:
Qualifications and Professional Requirements:
a) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from an institution recognized by Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
b) Master’s degree in Pediatrics and Child Health.
c) Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
d) Current retention certificate
e) Valid Practice License.
f) Recognition as a specialist by the KMPDC
g) Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.
h) Proficiency in computer applications.
i) At least one year of working experience as a Pediatrics and Child Health Specialist in a busy hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities
i. Formulating and reviewing health policies, strategies, guidelines and protocols
ii. Overseeing provision of promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health services
iii. Providing sub-specialized services to patients
iv. Planning and managing hospital healthcare programs
v. Initiating and managing healthcare projects and programs
vi. Developing intervention activities and programs for training health professionals in community health and health management in hospitals/health facilities
vii. Initiating and coordinating operational and clinical research
viii. Facilitating implementation of research findings to improve quality of service delivery
ix. Coordinating and providing specifications for procurement of health commodities
x. Ensuring adherence to health standards and guidelines
xi. Facilitating training and development of medical services staff
xii. Mobilizing resources and promoting partnerships and collaborations with hospital agencies and development partners in promotion of health programmes and projects
xiii. Monitoring and evaluating provision of health services
xiv. Preparing, planning, and budgeting for the directorates
xv. Coordinating capacity development and performance management.
