The US Ambassador to Kenya has reiterated her country’s interest in partnering with the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and Kisii County to improve maternal health outcomes.
Her Excellency Ambassador Meg Whitman said Kisii County is already receiving support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Speaking at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital during her tour of the facility on Wednesday, the ambassador emphasized the need for Kenya and indeed Kisii County to partner with the United States of America to improve health outcomes.
During her tour of the hospital, the Ambassador lauded the County Government of Kisii for completing the state-of-the-art Mother and Child Hospital and thanked the County Administration for prioritizing maternal and child health.
H.E. Governor Paul Simba Arati noted that despite the strides made by his administration to improve service delivery, the hospital was still facing challenges, including inadequate infrastructural facilities, a lack of modern equipment, and a shortage of medical supplies, which affected the quality of care.
The Governor, who reiterated his government’s commitment to improving healthcare for all, requested the ambassador for support in enhancing the drug revolving fund to ensure a consistent supply of drugs and equipping the 300-bed capacity Mother and Child Hospital.
