Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do i need referral to be treated at KTRH?
For outpatient and emergency cases, patients do not require a referral. However, a referral is required for other areas of care unless the patient has been attended to in the KTRH Outpatient/ Emergency department.
2. I have a referral, can i walk in and be treated?
No, you need an appointment.
3. How does one make an appointment?
By calling our contact center on 1558 or 0800 721 038 (Toll free) or physically visiting our Health Records service desks in the Hospital. However for our amenity wing s click on Book Appointment link to make an appointment.
4. When can I get my CT-Scan, MRI, biopsy, lab reports?

5. Can I choose KTRH as my preferred outpatient NHIF hospital?
Yes. You can select KTRH as your NHIF Outpatient facility. To choose KTRH dial *155# and enter KISII TEACHING AND REFERRAL HOSPITAL as facility name.
6. Can I use NHIF for outpatient services?
Yes. We accept NHIF for both National and Civil Servants' Schemes
7. Can I walk in and access a consultant?
You can access a consultant by booking an appointment or through a referral
8. Do you offer maternity, pre-natal and post-natal services?
Yes. All these services are offered both at the General and Amenity Wings
9. Do you offer children immunisation services?
Yes. We offer full immunization at the MCH on a daily basis
10. Does NHIF cover Renal Dialysis services?
Yes. You can access renal dialysis services 24/7 using your NHIF and other insurances
11. Does the hospital offer cancer services?
Yes. Currently we offer cancer screening and palliative care but will soon start offering chemotherapy services
12. How does one get admission?
  • Registration
  • Paying the deposit ( for Amenity Wing)
  • The patient is transferred to the ward
13. Do you have ambulatory services?
Yes. The hospital has an ambulance for referrals out of the facility. For incoming referrals, there are County ambulances that one can be linked to.
14. What are the hospital’s visiting hours?
Morning: 6:30 am- 7:00 am Afternoon: 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm Evening: 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
15. Does KTRH offer Covid vacinnes?
Yes. We have COVID 19 vaccinations and boosters
